The Texas Longhorns made a big move months ago by adding former Ohio State quarterback Quinn Ewers from the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Though Ewers never took the field for the Buckeyes, Steve Sarkisian knows he has a lot to bring to the table if he wins the job in 2022. He’s gotten to know the Texas native a lot better since Ewers enrolled in Austin and he thinks he’s fitting in nicely with the Longhorns.

“I think it’s been a good transition for him, he’s been on a college campus for four months,” Sarkisian said. “Naturally, when you come in and you’re new it takes a minute to find your groove, to get comfortable, but I see him being comfortable. I see the workouts and I know the guys have thrown a couple of different times now on their own. Obviously, the guy can throw the ball, he loves throwing the ball.

“I think being in the dorm, just being one of the guys again and being in at a place I think he always wanted to be at, he’s in a really good place. We’ve got to get the offense going and installed, get him comfortable and we’ll see how far we can go with this thing.”

Ewers was initially a part of the 2022 class before he reclassified to 2021 and joined Ohio State at the beginning of this season. He was an On3 Consensus five-star plus quarterback and the top prospect in both classes.

Sarkisian notches top-five recruiting class

Steve Sarkisian’s 2022 recruiting class really came together following the early signing period. They finished with 28 total recruits. The class is comprised of two five-stars, 20 four-stars and six three-stars and ranked No. 5 in the nation.

Before December, Texas had only one top-100 commit in four-star wide receiver Brenen Thompson. Now, the Longhorns have five. Top lineman Devon Campbell committed to Texas on Wednesday.

Five-star offensive tackle Kelvin Banks, four-star interior offensive lineman Neto Umeozulu and four-star cornerback Terrance Brooks all committed to the school during the month of December.

With Campbell, Banks and Umeozulu, the Longhorns decidedly have the best class of offensive linemen out of any program this cycle.
