Steve Sarkisian believes he’ll learn everything he needs to know about his Texas program when Alabama comes to town during the 2022 season.

When asked about the Crimson Tide being the litmus test for the Longhorns, Sarkisian told the ESPN crew at Big 12 Media Days that he knows his team will be ready to go.

“I have the utmost respect for Coach Saban and that organization and that team. Without Coach Saban, I wouldn’t be here sitting with you guys today, for what he’s done for my career. I know the work ethic that he has. I know the work ethic that his players and that building have on a daily basis, and I know they’ll be prepared and ready to play. I think we will be, too.

“Now, how far we can take it and what that looks like on game-day, we’ll find out. But it’ll be a heck of an environment in Austin, Texas that day. I think we’re all looking forward to it.”

While it’ll be an uphill battle for the Longhorns, Texas faithful will know Steve Sarkisian is the right man for their program if they can take Alabama to the limit. Facing his old boss in Nick Saban, it could be the biggest game Sarkisian has ever coached in his career.

“I’ve been fortunate throughout my career to be around some pretty good ones. I’ve come to realize it’s the most important position in sports. So, you try to get as many as you can in that room that can play at a high level, so it’s not just a one time thing. You can sustain it for years and years. We’re in a great situation right now. We’ve got a heck of a room. They work hard and work well together. They love competing with one another. But they love pushing the other guy, and pumping the other guy up when his opportunities come.

“Quinn and Hudson are in a great battle right now. Hudson has got a little bit more experience, and has been in the system for a year. His confidence level is really high, and I’m excited for him. Quinn is a very talented young man. Extremely coachable, great teammate.

“So, I love where we’re at. I think inevitably at some point in the season, we’re going to need both those guys to help us win a championship. But we’ll find out who it’s going to be in Week 1, and we’ll go from there.”

Evidently, Steve Sarkisian believes both Hudson Card and Quinn Ewers are essential to the success of the Longhorns for 2022. However, only one quarterback can be named their starter for the beginning of the season, and it’ll be among the most intriguing storylines over the summer.
