Steve Sarkisian got his first win in Red River, blowing out Oklahoma 49-0. Of course, he’ll tell you that he should’ve gotten his first win in Red River last season. Texas blew a 21-point first-quarter lead and an 18-point third-quarter lead to lose in dramatic fashion late.

Following 2022’s edition of Red River, Steve Sarkisian met with the media. There, he explained to them how happy he was to get this win, after letting one get away in 2021.

“I’m really happy for these guys,” Steve Sarkisian said. “I’m happy for our team. You know, I hate to dwell on last year, but we felt like we let one get away last year and thought these guys, their teammates, put forth a really good week of preparation.”

“You know, I thought our mental focus or mental intensity–they were not caught up in all of the fanfare and hoopla of the game. They focused on what they needed to do and in the end, we played a really complete football game. I felt like all three phases, guys executed–executed at a high level and the result was the result.”

“So, it’s what these guys did,” Steve Sarkisian reiterated while gesturing toward his players. “I’m proud of them and their focus. I’m proud of their leadership and getting themselves prepared to play and play at a high level.”

Texas celebrated the win with the Golden Hat

Following the game, Texas got to celebrate its win over Oklahoma by partying with the Golden Hat. The team even released a video of the celebration on Twitter.

Devin Richardson is shown looking for the Golden Hat, asking, “Where the hat at?”

Several other players, meanwhile, are looking for the Golden Hat to celebrate with while others are interacting with fans. Seeing what happened to Texas last season, and how long it had been since Texas beat Oklahoma, you have to be happy for the players there.
