Steve Sarkisian: 'No idea' if Quinn Ewers is playing final college home game on Saturday
The Texas Longhorns likely still have a lot of football ahead of them this season. At the same time, head coach Steve Sarkisian knows that for those going pro, this Saturday could be their last home game. That includes starting quarterback Quinn Ewers.
When asked about this potentially being Ewers’ final home game on Monday, Sarkisian explained that he doesn’t know. He, however, notably didn’t elaborate on that point.
“No idea,” Sarkisian said succinctly.
Sarkisian did not go on to explain if he and Ewers had discussions about the future. Ultimately, he didn’t add any extra context, other than saying he has no idea if this will be Ewers’ final home game.
Quinn Ewers is now in his third season at Texas and his fourth season of college football overall. At the end of this year, he’ll need to make a decision on whether or not to go to the NFL. He used a redshirt in his one season not with the Longhorns, so he does have the option to stay in college.
After playing his high school football at Southlake Carroll in Texas, Ewers reclassified and left early to go to Ohio State. He was named a five-star recruit in the Class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the top-ranked player overall in that cycle.

This season, Ewers has completed 68.4 percent of passes for 1,898 yards and 21 touchdowns to six interceptions. That’s in eight games, with Ewers missing time due to an injury. He also has a rushing touchdown. He’s also been named a Walter Camp Player of the Year semifinalist and a Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award semifinalist for his play this year.
If Quinn Ewers does ultimately decide to go to the NFL, Steve Sarkisian already knows that he can rely on Arch Manning to be his next starter at Texas. A highly-touted five-star recruit in his own right, Manning has sat for two seasons, only filling in for an injured Ewers in 2024, and preparing for his opportunity.
From here, the goal for Sarkisian and Texas is to make it to the SEC Championship Game and, ultimately, the College Football Playoff. That means that this week’s game against Kentucky could be the last game in Austin this season the Longhorns. At the same time, if Texas doesn’t win the SEC, they could end up hosting a home game for the Playoff in the first round.
