Steve Sarkisian opens up on Arch Manning's competition level
Spring practice is just getting going at a few different programs. One of those teams is Texas, where head coach Steve Sarkisian welcomed the highly acclaimed Arch Manning to the Longhorns’ roster and spring practice.
Now, Sarkisian has pointed out that he’s already incredibly excited about how competitive Manning is as a player. At the same time, it might be a bit early to demand the world from him.
“I think there’s, like anything, there’s growing pains of we make a big deal of the guy losing his ID twice the first couple of school,” Steve Sarkisian said. “So, he’s a freshman in college, but he does take it serious and he wants to be really good.”
Steve Sarkisian emphasized that having multiple competitive players at a single position is a good thing for the health of the program. Now, he feels that the Longhorns have that at the quarterback position.
“The beauty of it, one of the guys he’s competing with is taking it really serious and wants to be really good, and that competition should ultimately drive the best out of both of them and that’s what we’re trying to create in our program at every position group,” Sarkisian said.

“Because when you have that, that’s when your level of play continually goes up and up and up. That’s when you start seeing combine numbers go up from schools because you recruit well. You have a competitive environment. They all get better along the way.”
Steve Sarkisian on what players are limited
There will be several Texas players limited this spring. Steve Sarkisian explained who they are, as of now, to Joe Cook of Inside Texas.
“Steve Sarkisian says Jonathon Brooks, Jalen Catalon, Jaylon Guilbeau, Derion Gullette, Cole Hutson, Maalik Murphy, Isaiah Neyor, and Keilan Robinson will be limited this spring or were limited today,” tweeted Cook.
“Robinson is nursing a strain, per Sark.”
