Texas made a statement with its 49-0 beatdown of rival Oklahoma in the annual Red River Showdown. Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian addressed the victory immediately following the game.

“Well, I liked our state of mind all week. I thought our guys were really focused this week,” Sarkisian said after the game. “This game comes with a lot of distractions and I thought our kids prepared really well, came in clear-minded, really good mental intensity and we played good football today.”

Star quarterback Quinn Ewers finished his comeback game completing 21-of-31 passing for 289 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. He also added two rushes for 17 yards as well before being pulled in the fourth quarter due to the Longhorns’ seven-touchdown lead.

“He played really well,” Sarkisian said. “I was joking with him earlier, I said, ‘that might have been one of the worst interceptions I’ve ever seen,’ ball slipped out of his hands, but outside of that I thought he showed great composure. He’s just such a cool customer in moments like this.”

Bijan Robinson added 130 yards on the ground and two touchdowns to lead a rushing attack that amassed 294 yards against the Sooners Saturday afternoon.

Defensively, defensive backs Jahdae Barron and D’Shawn Jamison notched one interception a piece, and the group forced nine punts on the afternoon. Oklahoma would be forced to go three-and-out through its first six drives – something the Longhorns defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski and his group can certainly hand their hats on.

Texas alum Kevin Durant takes aim at Brent Venables in the midst of Red River Showdown blowout

It’s raining and pouring and downright storming in Norman, Oklahoma. The Sooners hosted the Red River Showdown this season vs. Texas and the Longhorns are absolutely dominating Oklahoma in front of their home crowd. With quarterback Quinn Ewers returning, the Texas offense went to work against a porous OU defense, racking up 28 points to Oklahoma’s zero in the first half.

The second half didn’t start out any better, with the Longhorns adding another touchdown to make it 35-0. Which prompted quite a diss from former Texas legend Kevin Durant. The Easy Money Sniper claimed another victim on Twitter with this quip

“Ayo somebody tell Brent Venables to pass the joystick….this ain’t it.”
