Steve Sarkisian provides updated timeline for multiple injured Texas players
As training camp enters the final stages, Texas is dealing with some injuries. Steve Sarkisian provided updates on multiple injured Longhorns on Thursday with another scrimmage looming on Saturday.
Roschon Johnson, Jahdae Barron, Troy Omeire and Cole Hutson are all dealing with miscellaneous injuries just a few weeks before the season gets going. Sarkisian said they’re making progress toward a return, but he doesn’t epxect them to see any action in Texas’ next scrimmage.
“I think we’ll get them back sooner rather than later,” Sarkisian said. “I feel good. … We work our way into next week, whether it’s Roschon or Jahdae Barron, Troy, Cole Hutson. A lot of these guys are on the come to come back. I don’t think I’m going to play any of them Saturday, quite honestly, because I want them to get back and be really healthy heading into the two weeks for that ballgame.
“But I feel good about the progress that they’re making. They’re working hard to get healthy. They want to get back out there. But I also know we’ve got a long way to go this season. I’ve got to make sure that those guys feel good and that they’re ready to go when those couple weeks leading up to the game and then game week and, obviously, [the] first ballgame.”

Steve Sarkisian sets bold goal on playing time for beginning of season
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian knows he’s going to rely on young players this season, considering more than two-thirds of his 2022 roster is made up of freshmen and sophomores. This week, the second-year Longhorns head coach told ESPN’s Chris Low that he intends to play those young athletes early, not only to develop depth but to also deal with blistering conditions.
“For the first month and a half of the season, it’s going to be 100 degrees, so we have to have the ability to play more players,” Sarkisian said.
Fans may take issue with Sarkisian’s approach, however. The month of September is as critical as any for the Longhorns who are hoping to turn around a 5-7 finish from 2021.
