Texas saw its recruiting staff shake-up when Billy Glasscock left Austin in favor of Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss. Glasscock served as the director of player personnel but will now be the Rebels’ general manager moving forward. Head coach Steve Sarkisian needed to get the department back in order and did as such on Tuesday evening.

Four promotions have been announced by Texas and Sarkisian, with Brandon Harris taking over as the program’s general manager. John Michael Jones will take over what was previously Glasscock’s title as the director of player personnel.

  • John Michael Jones – Dir. of Player Personnel
  • Taylor Searels – Dir. of Recruiting
  • Kyndal Perry – Dir. of Recruiting Operations

The Longhorns have been recruiting at an elite level over the past few cycles and internal promotions allow for some continuity moving forward. All focus will be on the 2025 class as Texas moves from the Big 12 and into the SEC.

Searels was the first to react via X, mentioning this will be his fourth season with Texas. She even used part of Sarkisian’s mantra, saying recruiting will be all gas, with brakes optional.

“THE TEAM!! I could not be more thrilled to head into year 4 at Texas Football with this group by my side,” Searels said. “So incredibly thankful. ALL GAS! Let’s Recruit!”

Texas wrapping up third consecutive top-six recruiting class

Recruiting has never been a problem for the Longhorns even as the program went through some on-field struggles. Charlie Strong and Tom Herman were both able to bring elite prospects to the 40 Acres, they just struggled to develop them and turn the recruiting results into wins.

Sarkisian has taken things to a new level, though.

The late National Signing Day will take place on Wednesday, with a few 2024 elite prospects still having decisions to make. However, Texas is not expecting to have any additions to their class, currently ranked No. 6 per the On3 Industry Team Rankings.

Previously, Texas finished No. 5 in the 2022 cycle and No. 3 in 2023. A lot of those players played a role in winning a Big 12 championship and earning a spot in the College Football Playoff.

The recruiting staff obviously plays a huge part in the process and losing Glasscock to Ole Miss was a significant moment. However, Sarkisian must believe the internal promotions can keep Texas recruiting at the level it expects to.
