Steve Sarkisian reveals how Quinn Ewers feels physically after return to action
Steve Sarkisian evaluated how Quinn Ewers felt after returning to the fold for Texas on Saturday against the TCU Horned Frogs.
The Longhorns quarterback led the program to the win as he returned from a shoulder injury, completing 22-of-33 passes for 317 yards and one touchdown and one interception. On Monday, Sarkisian revealed how Ewers was feeling after his return to acton.
“For us with Quinn, naturally he was a little sore,” Sarkisian said. “But he threw today, operated, and did fine. As the weeks go on, if we can continue to protect like we did the other night he’s only going to continue to get better and more healthy.”
Continuing, Sarkisian reiterated that there’s no need to plat cautiously for Ewers, and that the Longhorns are more than comfortable if they have to sling it throughout a game with their quarterback.
“We’re more than comfortable — If the plan needs to be that we need to throw it around, we’re more than capable,” Sarkisian added. “Our offensive line is more than capable, Quinn is more than capable. Receiving corps and tight ends, things of that nature.”
Alas, that’s beautiful news for Longhorns fans everywhere. Texas has College Football Playoff aspirations, and Ewers’ play will go a long way towards getting them there.

Moreover, Sarkisian also stated during his post-game press conference that Ewers’ pocket presence versus the Horned Frogs was something positive point, as it could’ve been shaky for someone coming off a shoulder problem.
“Quinn, coming off of injury, I don’t know if I could have asked for much more,” Sarkisian said. “I thought he stood in the pocket. I thought he made some throws in critical moments. I’m sure we’re going to look at the tape and see plays that maybe he could have executed a little better, and that’s any game.”
Nevertheless, Ewers wasn’t perfect on Saturday. He did have a couple of mistakes throughout, with the main one being an interception in the first half. He underthrew Xavier Worthy but after a lengthy return from TCU, Jordan Whittington was able to make a nice play and punch the ball out. Texas fell on the fumble, giving Ewers another shot.
Regardless, the focus for Steve Sarkisian and Quinn Ewers is looking to continue to work on the quarterback’s shoulder and get closer back to 100%. In the meantime, the Longhorns will simply look to continue winning games.
