Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has looked every bit the part of the highly touted prospect he was coming out of high school. As one of the most highly touted prospects in college football recruiting history, that’s not easy. But he’s looked ultra-accurate with the football early on in his freshman year with the Longhorns. He’ll get his first true taste of road action this weekend when the Longhorns travel to Oklahoma State. But Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said he’s not worried, because he knows his star quarterback handles adversity remarkably well.

“Well, I think he, obviously Quinn’s got a great deal of composure. He’s got poise. I never feel like the moment’s too big for him. If it is, he doesn’t show it. And I think that’s a great sign. He’s got a great poker face. If he is a little anxious or is feeling a little uncertain, he always seems to kinda give that confident feeling. And you know, I think that bodes well for our team. I think our team, our players, our coaches, it’s natural that most quarterbacks are the ones that are kind of the head of the snake,” Sarkisian said.

In his first season of action with the Longhorns, Ewers has completed 67.7 percent of his passes for 820 yards, while tossing in nine touchdowns with just two interceptions.

“And he’s got that about him. I think being with him now more and being on the sidelines with him and watching him overcome adversity is something I’ve been very impressed with him. Going back to the very first game against [Louisiana]-Monroe. The first third down he throws an interception, he comes right back, and plays good football for us. So, I’m learning him more, which is part of the process. But I do think he’s got a calm demeanor about him that he really just goes and plays the next play. And he doesn’t harbor things that have occurred before. The good or the bad. He just plays in the moment and that’s a great thing to have at the quarterback position,” Sarkisian said in his Thursday press conference.

The Texas Longhorns will travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma to face the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday, October 22. Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM EST and the game will be nationally televised on ABC.
