Steve Sarkisian shares he feels good about Quinn Ewers' health
Texas is trying to put the finishing touches on a one-loss regular season, and the next task is a road trip to Iowa State. It’ll also be the second game back from injury for Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers.
Heading into the weekend, head coach Steve Sarkisian is feeling good about how healthy Ewers is at this point. The coach even offered a bit of a prediction for how his signal caller plays.
“I feel good about where Quinn’s at. I think he’s going to go play a really good football game for us,” Sarkisian said.
After getting knocked out late against Houston on Oct. 21, Ewers missed two games with an injury to his right throwing shoulder.
His return on Saturday in Week 11 wasn’t flawless, but enough to get the win. Ewers went 22-of-33 for 317 yards and a touchdown, along with an interception.
Ewers reflected on his return to play
While it was another close game, Ewers led Texas to the win and elaborated on how he felt after the game.
“It was great to be back out there,” Ewers said. “I felt like I just went right in there and was just as comfortable as when I left. So I was just fired up to be back out there. Couldn’t thank the Lord enough.”
Meanwhile, Sarkisian stated Ewers played “pretty well” and came up in big moments for Texas, happy with his quarterback’s performance.

“I thought Quinn played pretty well,” Sarkisian said during his postgame interview with ESPN’s Tom Luginbill. “Coming off that injury — made some big-time plays in some big-time moments for us. Hopefully, we can continue to get him more and more healthy as we move forward.”
Sarkisian added more during his postgame press conference, continuing to praise his quarterback. Ewers’ pocket presence was another positive point brought up, something that could have been shaky for someone coming off a shoulder problem.
“Quinn, coming off of injury, I don’t know if I could have asked for much more,” Sarkisian said. “I thought he stood in the pocket. I thought he made some throws in critical moments. I’m sure we’re going to look at the tape and see plays that maybe he could have executed a little better, and that’s any game.”
Nevertheless, Ewers wasn’t perfect on Saturday. He did have a couple of mistakes throughout, with the main one being an interception in the first half. He underthrew Xavier Worthy but after a lengthy return from TCU, Jordan Whittington was able to make a nice play and punch the ball out. Texas fell on the fumble, giving Ewers another shot.
He took advantage of it, finding Worthy down the sideline once again. His first throw following the interception was an incredible one, washing out the mistake. Just a few moments later, Texas punched the ball into the end zone for six.
Now, the focus for Steve Sarkisian and Quinn Ewers is looking to continue to work on the quarterback’s shoulder and get closer back to 100%.
