Since Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers returned from his shoulder injury, he has played in three games. Against Oklahoma and Iowa State, he played well. Then, on a road trip to play Oklahoma State in Stillwater, he had a poor statistical performance. Ewers completed just 38.8% of his passes during the loss. After the game, head coach Steve Sarkisian was questioned about his poor performance.

During his postgame press conference, Steve Sarkisian was asked if he ever considered pulling Quinn Ewers for Hudson Card.

“No,” Steve Sarkisian simply said.

The reporter then asked if there was any injury concern for Quinn Ewers, given that he was now wearing a glove during the pregame warm-ups.

“No. His hand is fine and no, I didn’t consider pulling him,” Steve Sarkisian said, shooting down the question.

It’s doubtful that Steve Sarkisian ever considers pulling Quinn Ewers for Hudson Card. Ewers has tons of upside and he’s obviously a very talented quarterback. Card, while a good and experienced quarterback, doesn’t have that same high-end upside. So, unless Ewers continues to have issues, he’s going to be the safe choice.

Quinn Ewers will have a bye week before getting the chance to bounce back against Kansas State.

Steve Sarkisian was optimistic about Ewers’ first road start

Because of the injury against Alabama, Quinn Ewers hadn’t started a road game until the loss to Oklahoma State. Prior to the game, Sarkisian was optimistic about Ewers.

“Well, I think he, obviously Quinn’s got a great deal of composure. He’s got poise. I never feel like the moment’s too big for him. If it is, he doesn’t show it. And I think that’s a great sign. He’s got a great poker face. If he is a little anxious or is feeling a little uncertain, he always seems to kinda give that confident feeling. And you know, I think that bodes well for our team. I think our team, our players, our coaches, it’s natural that most quarterbacks are the ones that are kind of the head of the snake,” Steve Sarkisian said.

So, while things didn’t work out against Oklahoma State, Steve Sarkisian still thinks that Quinn Ewers has all the tools that he needs.
