Steve Sarkisian suggests he'll 'try' first Fletcher's Corny Dog if Texas beats Oklahoma
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is heading to the Cotton Bowl for the fourth time in his career. This go-round will be as the No. 1 team in the country, the first time the Longhorns face Oklahoma with the top spot since 1984. By this point, Sarkisian is well-versed in what comes with playing in the Red River Shootout.
One thing he has yet to experience is one of the best food items the State Fair of Texas has to offer — a Fletcher’s Corny Dog. Most of his attention has been on coaching the game but Sarkisian says if Texas gets a win on Saturday, one will be consumed. No word on what his main condiment will be, though.
“I have not enjoyed a corny dog,” Sarkisian said. “I have not had a chance to partake in the State Fair but I know it’s a great time… Maybe if we win, I’ll try to find a corny dog or something.”
Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables was asked a similar question earlier in the call. At first, he claimed to not know about the corny dogs before also saying he would enjoy one if the Sooners got a victory.

Steve Sarkisian explains what makes Texas-OU “so special”
Sarkisian has been a part of multiple rivalry games but has gone out of his way to call Texas-Oklahoma the best one. He explains what makes the game “so special” with most of the reasoning being away from the game itself.
“I know our fans really enjoy it. It’s really fun when we show up to the stadium, we kind of drive through the fair, see the fans from both Texas and OU and the pride that they have,” Sarkisian said. “Very unique setting for a football game. I think that’s what makes this game so special, just that being at the fair. There’s more people outside the stadium than there are inside the stadium, the fans split right there at the 50. A ton of energy in the stadium.”
