Steve Sarkisian 'super proud' of Quinn Ewers
The sting is still fresh for Steve Sarkisian and Texas following their loss in the College Football Playoff Semifinals against Ohio State, but the Longhorns leader decided to reflect during his postgame press conference, and heap praise on his quarterback in Quinn Ewers.
While the star recruit always wanted to bring Texas a national title, he was able to get the Longhorns to back-to-back Semifinals, although they weren’t able to get to the national title game. No matter, Sarkisian has nothing but a ton of respect for Ewers, and he believes the quarterback should go down as one of the top in the history of the program.
“I’m super proud of Quinn,” Sarkisian said, regarding his time with Ewers throughout his career in Austin. “He’s taught me a lot, probably unknowingly to him, because what he went through every year, dealing with injuries, what he goes through where — I don’t know if he’d ever live up to the standards of what everybody thinks he’s supposed to be. But at the end of the day, all he did was show up every day and work and be a great leader and be a great teammate, and that that’s a real credit to him, because human nature in this day and age is to look at Twitter, to look at Instagram, to look at social media and articles written in fan boards and whatever else, and you can ride that emotional roller coaster of whatever you think public opinion could be, and that could be the opinion of one or 100 or whatever.
“But that guy never did that. You know, all he did was come to work every day. All he did was be a great teammate. All he did was work on his craft, get himself as healthy as he could when he was injured, and then show up, and when it was time to show up — maybe, outside of the first two games, I don’t think he played a game this year 100% healthy, and he fought through everything. Never complained about it one time. I think that’s why he has so much respect from his teammates.”

It’s easy to see why Sarkisian has a ton of love for Ewers. Even if the Texas fanbase might be a little fickle following another demoralizing loss taking place so close to the pinnacle of the sport, what the quarterback has done for the program over the past couple of seasons can’t be understated.
As he moves on with his career following Texas’ loss to Ohio State, Quinn Ewers should be remembered fondly, and Steve Sarkisian will make sure of that, as the Longhorns turn the page to Arch Manning for 2025.
