Between Quinn Ewers’ injury and dropping a couple of games, Texas has had a disappointing season where the team has flashed its potential at times. Head coach Steve Sarkisian knows that this team is close to getting over the hump, even if it hasn’t happened yet. Now, he wants them to stay focused on the rest of the season.

While speaking at his weekly press conference, Steve Sarkisian said that he wants everyone to understand the opportunity that Texas has because the season isn’t over yet.

“We’ve got a great opportunity,” Steve Sarkisian said. “There’s a lot of football left to be played in the Big 12.”

“We’ve got a great opportunity with some quality opponents, you know, coming down the barrel and we need to play well in these games to hopefully give us an opportunity to still make it to Dallas. But, we’ve got to control what we can control. As I say to the players, we’ve got to mow our own lawn and that’s taking care of business in two weeks when we go to Manhattan.”

So, as far as Steve Sarkisian is concerned, Texas still has its season in front of it. That’s because there are still enough games to be played that the Longhorns haven’t been eliminated yet. It won’t be easy, and will likely require some luck, but Texas could still win the Big 12.

Texas has a bye week before the final four-game stretch of the season. During that time, the Longhorns will play Kansas State, TCU, Kansas, and Baylor. Right now, TCU is the top dog in the Big 12 standings. The Longhorns, for their part, are fourth in the Big 12. That’s two games out of first place and one out of second. However, Oklahoma State now holds a tiebreaker over Texas.

“So, a lot of work to do.”
