Steve Sarkisian tweets photo of 2023 schedule ahead of 2024 SEC announcement
Wednesday night, Texas fans are going to learn what their team will be up against during its inaugural season in the SEC when the league announces its 2024 schedule. However, Steve Sarkisian made one thing clear ahead of the release.
He and the Longhorns still have their eye on the ball.
Sarkisian and multiple Texas players tweeted the 2023 schedule Wednesday as the SEC was gearing up for its 2024 schedule reveal show. The 2023 season will be the Longhorns’ last as members of the Big 12 as they, along with Oklahoma, prepare to make the jump to the SEC one season earlier than initially planned.
Texas will start its 2023 campaign against Rice at home Sept. 2 before a huge non-conference matchup against Alabama in Tuscaloosa. There’s also one final game against Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl as members of the Big 12.
Still, 2024 is coming quickly — and some parts of Texas’ schedule came out before the SEC’s announcement.
Inside Texas reported a few of the Texas opponents on the 2024 SEC football schedule. The Longhorns will play road games at Arkansas and Texas A&M, as well as Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl and Georgia at home.
It’ll be quite the welcome for Sarkisian and Texas. In fact, both the Longhorns and the Sooners will get a big introduction to the SEC.

According to ESPN’s Peter Burns, each current SEC squad will play one of either Texas or Oklahoma once in 2024, meaning they’ll all have the chance to face off against a new opponent next season.
“BREAKING: Each of the SEC teams will play either Texas or Oklahoma once in the upcoming 2024 CFB season,” Burns tweeted Wednesday morning. “So every SEC team will have Longhorns or Sooners on their 2024 schedule. Whether they are home or away announced later tonight on @SECNetwork.”
Texas is gearing up for Sarkisian’s third season at the helm and Ewers’ second at quarterback. The Longhorns bring some high expectations into the season as Quinn Ewers returns as quarterback and has some impressive talent around him. Xavier Worthy is back at wide receiver and one of last year’s top transfers, Isaiah Neyor, could be a key player after missing 2022 due to injury.
In fact, On3’s J.D. PicKell went so far as to say Texas shouldn’t have any more excuses this season given the stakes in one final go-round in the Big 12.
