Steve Sarkisian updates health, timetable of Troy Omeire's return
Former four-star prospect Troy Omeire has shown flashes of his immense talent during fall camp for the Longhorns the past few seasons. Many people had him pegged to be one of the team’s breakout stars during the 2021-2022 campaign. Unfortunately for Omeire and the Longhorns, he’s suffered back-to-back season-ending knee injuries for the first two seasons of his college football career. Dripping with a jaw-dropping amount of talent, Texas fans are excited to see the gifted wideout finally get his chance to shine during the 2022-2023 season. In his press conference on Tuesday, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian updated fans on the health and timetable for return of Omeire.
Steve Sarkisian on Troy Omeire’s health and timetable for return
“Really, we have three guys kind of in the same boat, right? We have Troy Omeire, we have Jayden Alexis, we have Luke Brockmeyer all kind of coming off of ACL stuff. Troy and Jayden are clearly a little further along. They’ve got about three months or so on Luke,” Sarkisian said.
“Troy’s been good. His rehab with all the straight line running looks good. We’re doing some work cutting and different things. Clearly, he’s unable to practice right now. But he’s at a pretty good stage. And I like the attitude. It’s never fun when you have the same injury back-to-back, two years in a row, but I commend him on his attitude the second time around. I think he’s really taken a positive approach to it,” Sarkisian said.
“He’s worked really hard. I think he’s kind of chomping at the bit to get back out on the field and get going. Clearly from our perspective, we want to make sure we do right by him. That when it is his time to go that he’s in really good physical condition. I think mentally he’s in a much better space, like I said, this time around. And….we need him,” the Texas head man said.

“We don’t have as many legs at wideout right now as we would like. And so, he and Jayden–the sooner we can get them back–the better it is. But ultimately we want to make sure that they’re healthy and ready to go when that time comes,” Sarkisian said.
The Texas head coach is in luck because the Longhorns offensive attack will be quite loaded with weaponry during the 2022-2023 season. The ‘Horns return one of the nation’s best running back-wide receiver combos in Bijan Robinson and Xavier Worthy. Not only that, Texas added former Wyoming star Isaiah Neyor from the transfer portal. He was rated as the No. 2 wide receiver prospect in the On3 2022 Transfer Portal Rankings and deservedly so. Last season, Neyor pulled in 44 catches for 878 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns for the Cowboys. The Longhorns also reeled one of the most acclaimed trigger men in high school football recruiting history from the transfer portal, Quinn Ewers. The former Ohio State signal-caller will have to battle with quarterback Hudson Card for the Longhorns starting job.
One thing is for certain, Steve Sarkisian will have no shortage of offensive weapons heading into the 2022-2023 season.
The Texas spring game is set for Saturday, April 23.
