All eyes in the college football world will be in Austin this weekend, with the Texas Longhorns set to host the Alabama Crimson Tide. Both ESPN’s College Gameday and Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff will be in town, with the latter network having the broadcast rights. Urban Meyer will be on set pregame, breaking down the game.

Before then, Meyer recorded another edition of Urban’s Take, talking about how big of an occasion Saturday will be. He said it’s going to be a “tall task” for both Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and quarterback Quinn Ewers.

“This is two blue bloods, this is two traditional powerhouses,” Meyer said. “I’ve been watching Texas — they’re not there yet. Coach Sarkisian is doing a good job. He hit the transfer portal hard but I watched last week’s film. Quinn Ewers, I think is going to be a fine quarterback. Tall task for them against Alabama.”

Ewers will be entering just his second career college game, putting on a decent performance against Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday. There might not be a bigger test early in your tenure than Nick Saban and Alabama.

As for Texas as a program, this will mark the first No. 1 team in Austin since Ohio State was in town in 2006. Some big games have taken place at home for the Longhorns but not many like this.

Urban Meyer discusses’ Alabama 2022 team

When looking at Alabama’s roster for this season, Meyer decided to do a comparison of previous national championship team. Specifically with skill position players, when Alabama had two first-round wide receivers.

However, what the Crimson Tide does have is Will Anderson. On the verge of earning an invite to the Heisman Trophy ceremony, Anderson was described as another “tall task” for Texas in the game.

“Every year, they just be coming, coming,” Meyer said. “I don’t think Alabama has the skill. That 2020 team, with (Jaylen) Waddle and Devonta (Smith) — that was incredible. They don’t have that. But what they do have is everything else. That quarterback is phenomenal. Great defense. Probably the greatest defensive player in college football. Tall task for the Texas Longhorns.”

Kick-off is scheduled for 11 a.m. local time at Darrel K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. In what should be an incredible atmosphere in Austin, two of the biggest programs in all of college football are set to showdown.
