Texas 4-star WR commit Johntay Cook records massive receiving performance

On Friday night, Desoto (Texas) defeated Mansfield (Texas) Lake Ridge 86-26. A key reason for Desoto’s victory was four-star wide receiver and Texas commit Johntay Cook.

The 5-foot-11, 171 pound wideout finished the night with 10 receptions for 230 yards and five touchdowns. His play helped Desoto move to 6-1.

Cook II is the No. 43 overall prospect and No. 8 wide receiver in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 7 player in Texas.

The wideout is currently the fourth-highest-ranked prospect in Texas’ 2023 recruiting class behind New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Arch Manning, New Iberia (La.) Westgate five-star safety Derek Williams and Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater four-star running back Cedric Baxter Jr. Texas’ group, which is No. 6 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 2 in the Big 12, includes one other receiver alongside Cook in Houston (Texas) Aldine Eisenhower four-star Ryan Niblett.

Cook II has an On3 NIL Valuation of $281K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
