Texas announces Coral Gables Regional weather delay has pushed back first pitch to 3:46 p.m.
First pitch of Game 1 of the Coral Gables Regional of the NCAA baseball tournament was delayed due to weather. A new starting time of 3:46 p.m. EST has been announced for the matchup between Texas and Louisiana.
The game was originally slated to start at 2 p.m. EST. Miami, the hosts of the regional, are scheduled to play Maine at 7 p.m. today. The start time of that game could be delayed due to a late finish from Game 1.
Per the announcement from the Texas baseball Twitter account, the teams were waiting “for some weather to move out of the area.”
The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for much of South Florida on Friday afternoon, running through the end of Saturday. Much of the current weather in South Florida is attributable to Tropical Storm Arlene and the bands of low pressure — and foul weather — that it’s sending shoreward.
While the weather has cleared enough for Texas and Louisiana to get the baseball going today, there’s no guarantee some more weather might not come along and cause a few more problems in Coral Gables before the weekend is out.

Elsewhere in college baseball from the state of Texas, Washington blew open a game against Dallas Baptist at the Stillwater Regional
Washington blew open Game 1 of the Stillwater Regional in the top of the fifth inning on Friday, plating seven runs to take an 8-1 lead over hosts Dallas Baptist. Capping the inning was Johnny Tincher, who blasted a three-run shot to score the sixth, seventh and eighth runs.
The Huskies had already done a fair bit of damage in the inning, building on the one run they tacked on in the fourth to open the scoring. They’d already scored four in the top of the fifth inning when Tincher filled the batters box with runners on the corners.
He took a 1-1 pitch low and inside and turned it back around for a three-run blast to left-centerfield.
“A three-run Jimmy jack for Johnny Tincher!” the play-by-play announcer exlaimed.
However, much like Dallas Baptist responded to Washington’s first run by nabbing one of their own, the Patriots plated some runs in response in the bottom of the fifth and chased starting pitcher Stu Flesland III. Dallas Baptist plated a trio of runs in the bottom of the inning to keep within range and be in a position to make a comeback.
