Texas coach Steve Sarkisian provides postgame update on Quinn Ewers injury
The entirety of the Texas fanbase is awaiting news on the status of quarterback Quinn Ewers, who left the first quarter of Saturday’s game against Alabama with injury and did not return. After the Longhorns lost 20-19 against the Crimson Tide, coach Steve Sarkisian obliged with an update on Ewers’ status postgame.
He described the injury as a “clavicle sprain,” according to On3’s Joe Cook. Sarkisian went on to say “We don’t know the severity quite yet. He’s going to get a MRI.”
On a first-and-goal play late in the first quarter, Ewers threw the ball out of bounds as Alabama linebacker Dallas Turner was coming toward him and leveled a huge hit. Ewers landed hard on the play and took a while to get up before walking off the field under his own power.

In his first college start this past week, Ewers finished 16-of-24 passing for 225 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a 52-10 victory against Louisiana-Monroe. The No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2021 according to On3 Consensus, Ewers was hoping to build upon that performance on the big stage.
In place of Ewers, Card finished 14-of-22 passing for 158 yards. Card dealt with an injury of his own in the second half, but stayed in the game. He will likely continue as the Longhorns starting quarterback as long as Ewers is out.
Following the loss against Alabama, Texas is next scheduled to face UTSA at 7 p.m. CT next Saturday at home.
