Texas completes comeback vs. LSU, walks off Tigers to win top-10 series

No. 3 Texas defeated No. 9 LSU in comeback fashion on Saturday, winning the series 2-1 after 3B Mia Scott‘s single scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Longhorns trailed 5-4 entering the final half-inning after giving up four runs in the top of the sixth and seventh innings. Texas would match these fireworks, not only scoring three runs in the sixth to re-take the lead at the time but also scoring the game-winning runs on two RBI singles with two outs in the final inning to win the game 6-5.
Nine total runs were scored in the final two innings after each team scored one apiece during the first five on the afternoon. The late flurry of offense saw four lead changes before Texas made the comeback in the last half inning.
Shortstop Leighann Goode began the bottom of the seventh with a lead-off double. Both Kaydee Bennett and Ashton Maloney were put out in consecutive plate appearances. Goode was able to advance to third during those two at-bats, however. This brought center fielder Kayden Henry to the plate, who singled and brought Goode home as the game-tying run.
Scott was up next, and with two outs and a runner on first base — she slapped a single into the field, beat the throw to first base and brought Henry home after a wild throw to the home plate to give Texas the walk-off win. The comeback victory not only won the game for the Longhorns but the series as well as Texas took two of three games against the Tigers at home.
