While Texas will have one more Big 12 game to play — the conference title game next Saturday — it was an emphatic and complete end to regular season play in the league on Friday night, a 57-7 win over Texas Tech. And the Longhorns faithful, apparently ready for the SEC, let the world know.

Adding to the fun? Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark, who is somewhat persona non grata in Austin since his comments to a handful of Texas Tech boosters preseason, was in attendance on Black Friday for the beat down.

The Texas videoboard operators played a clip from Yormark’s speech that day when he more or less urged the Red Raiders to send Texas out of the league with a loss.

Texas sewed up a Big 12 Championship Game appearance with the win, and the message “See you in Arlington” popped up on the board after Yormark’s comments.

And, of course, the inevitable chant broke out: “S-E-C! S-E-C! S-E-C!”

It wasn’t the lone SEC-centric troll on Friday

To mark the occasion, the Longhorns showed scores from “around the nation” — or, in this case, around the SEC.

The Longhorns jumbotron put up nine games, all of which involved SEC teams. They did so with Yormark in attendance and amid blowout of rival Texas Tech at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Texas fans also had another reason to get excited

Friday night, Longhorns fans saw something they’ve been waiting for all year. Arch Manning made his collegiate debut.

Manning took the field in the third quarter against Texas Tech with the Longhorns ahead. He replaced Quinn Ewers, who left amid the blowout nature of the game.

On his first series, Manning took three carries for seven yards and threw two passes.

Manning finished 2-of-5 for 30 yards, plus three carries for seven more yards, and did lead a touchdown drive in the late stages of the game.

Manning — the son of Cooper, grandson of Archie and nephew of Peyton and Eli — arrived in Austin with plenty of hype from the recruiting trail. He was a Five Star Plus+ recruit, meaning he was one of the only players ranked by all four major recruiting media companies as a five star. The Isidore Newman (LA) product was the No. 1-ranked player in the nation from the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
