Texas is back — even ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum agrees — and now that its program has taken down mighty Alabama, Longhorns fans know what they want next.

On South Hall of the school’s campus in Austin, students gathered after Saturday’s 34-24 victory. Among the victories chants heard among the group were “S-E-C, S-E-C, S-E-C” and “We want Georgia!”

The win is one of the biggest in recent program history and will push Texas high into the polls Sunday.

“I think we can all collectively say Texas is back and they’re in the top four,” Finebaum said Sunday morning on SportsCenter. “There’s no getting around that. When you go into Bryant-Denny Stadium and do what just a handful of teams in the Saban era have done, you deserve considerable kudos. They not only won the game by double digits, they dominated the game. This game really should have been a much bigger beatdown but if you look at the top four right now, clearly Georgia is there, Michigan. But Texas and Florida State have snuck in. I know a lot of people are asking about Ohio State and Southern Cal. They’re right outside of that.”

Quinn Ewers led the offensive charge for the Longhorns, throwing for 349 yards and three touchdowns on 24 of 38 passing.

With the team down 16-13 heading into the fourth, Ewers led Texas on three straight scoring drives to flip the game’s momentum and take a 34-24 lead with 8:23 remaining.

“I’m so fired up right now,” Ewers said after the game. “We worked so hard this offseason and for it to finally show, it’s just so special. I don’t think it’s really quite sunk in yet what we did here, but I know we’re going to enjoy this one. I couldn’t be more fired up.”

The Longhorns next take on Wyoming — who upset Texas Tech during the first week of the season — at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium next Saturday.

The victory was Texas’ first over a top-three team in the AP Poll on the road since 1969. That game came on Dec. 6, 1969, when the No. 1 Longhorns traveled to Fayetteville, Ark., to play No. 2 Arkansas. In a Game of the Century, Texas came back from 14 points down to win 15-14.

The Longhorns would later be named national champions after defeating Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl to cap off a memorable undefeated season.
