Texas cruised past Clemson 38-24 in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Saturday, setting the stage for a date with Arizona State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day.

However, the victory didn’t come without a downside. A couple of key Longhorns were banged up during the playoff battle. Head coach Steve Sarkisian updated each of their statuses during Texas’ postgame press conference.

Tre Wisner kind of banged his knee,” Sarkisian revealed postgame. “He was available to come back in. We made the decision to go with [Jaydon] Blue and [Jerrick] Gibson. Jake Majors on that interception kind of took that blindside shot. He also was available to come back in. We decided to make that decision to hold him.

“Then Cam Williams injured his knee there. Tried to go. We’ll get an MRI here this evening and see where he’s at. Those were the three ones there.”

Wisner, the team’s leading rusher and main ball carrier, still was able to finish the game with 15 rushes for 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Texas rushed for 292 total yards during the contest, as Jaydon Blue led the way with 146 yards and two touchdowns himself as well.

Neither Majors nor Williams, both offensive linemen, went into the game to start the second half, causing some reshuffling of the entire Texas offensive line but the Longhorns’ rushing totals indicate that they adjusted just fine.

“More than anything else, I’m proud of our guys,” Sarkisian finished. “We talked a lot about responding to adversity around here, and whether it’s individual adversity or team adversity. I’m really proud of this group because nobody hung their head coming out of Atlanta. It was, ‘Okay, let’s go on to the next mission, let’s go win four more games.’

“You can’t win four unless you’re able to win the first one and we were able to do that. Now we’ve got to win three more.”

With a 1-0 mindset, Texas is set to travel back to the place where they suffered their latest setback in the SEC Championship game — Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta — to take on Arizona State in the Peach Bowl.
