Steve Sarkisian and Texas are pushing for another top-10 recruiting class as the 2024 cycle nears the December signing period.

The Longhorns suffered a tough loss in the Red River Rivalry to Oklahoma over the weekend, but they still made an effort with the host of recruits that were in Dallas. That includes McKinney (Texas) five-star safety and current Florida commit, Xavier Filsaime.

After making a visit to the Cotton Bowl, Filsaime announced an official offer from Texas on Monday.

Filsaime is the No. 27 overall prospect and No. 2 safety in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He committed to Florida on April 13 and is the Gators’ second highest-ranked pledge. UF beat out the likes of Georgia, LSU, Oregon and USC for the safety.

“It was just crazy. I loved how they treated me. I’m from Florida so it felt nice being back home on my visit. Also, I loved how the team just had this strong chemistry and energy,” Filsaime said of the Gators.

Texas already has 11 in-state commits in its 2024 recruiting class, which ranks No. 12 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking. Highlighting that group and the class as a whole is Duncanville Five-Star Plus+ EDGE Colin Simmons, the No. 5 recruit in the cycle.

Florida, meanwhile, has put together the No. 4 class in the nation, spearheaded by Filsaime and another Lone Star State product, Willis five-star quarterback DJ Lagway, the No. 3 signal-caller in the class. Billy Napier’s pledge list consists of 21 names, 16 of whom are blue-chippers.

Filsaime has an On3 NIL Valuation of $241K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Xavier Filsaime Scouting Summary

“Xavier Filsaime is an athletic, physical safety with versatility on the back end. Measured at over 5-foot-11.5, around 180 pounds prior to his junior season. Has average to below average length for the position with a 30.75-inch arm. Turned in very strong track times as a sophomore, with multiple sub-11.0 second marks in the 100 meters, highlighted by a personal best of 10.52 seconds. Primarily worked as a safety as a junior, lining up deep and in the slot. Makes most of his plays as a cover down defender. Physical and throws his body around. Shows pop as a striker.

…Closes quickly when moving forward. Sniffs out quick passes. Plays with some attitude. Has the speed and fluidity to line up on receivers in man coverage. Did not have much ball production as a junior at safety but was a wide receiver as a sophomore, alleviating questions about ball skills. Did not replicate his sophomore track times as a junior. Younger for the class with an April birthday.”
