Texas Longhorns pushing hard to land trio of 5-star receivers
Steve Sarkisian and Texas have recruited at an exceptional level since taking over in Austin after the 2020 football season.
No position is that more apparent than wide receiver, where the Longhorns have landed a pair of five-stars in Xavier Worthy and Johntay Cook II, as well as highly-coveted four-stars Ryan Niblett, DeAndre Moore Jr., and Ryan Wingo in the past couple of classes.
Sarkisian and receivers coach Chris Jackson could be in line for their class yet in 2025, though. The Longhorns are the heavy favorite in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) for Five-Star Plus+ receiver Dakorien Moore after his decommitment from LSU. But they’re also at or near the top of the list for five-stars Jaime Ffrench and Kaliq Lockett.
According to InsideTexas.com recruiting insider Justin Wells, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see all three end up signing with the Longhorns.
“I do think all three would want to be on the same team together,” he said on Sunday during On3’s Inside Scoop recruiting show. “I think Texas leads for Jamie Ffrench right now, I’m even considering an RPM [prediction] later in the week. … I’m getting closer and closer with that one. Dakorien Moore has been at the top of the list since [receivers coach] Chris Jackson got the job. He’s been the No. 1 guy for 2025 for a while. And Kaliq Lockett caught up with the staff a few days ago, and he loves the idea of playing with fellow five-stars. If Texas were able to get three five-stars in this class in 2025 with Moore, Ffrench and Lockett, that reminds me of the Class of 2000 when they brought in Roy Williams, B.J. Johnson and Sloan Thomas. It’s on par with those guys.”
Longhorns are in ‘great shape’ to land all three five-stars
Each of the three will take official visits to Austin next month. Moore will be in town the weekend of June 14, while Lockett and Ffrench will be on campus the following weekend, June 21.

The trip will be the first for each since they all were on campus in April, and Wells added that he thinks that could be a pivotal moment if Texas were to land all three.
“All these guys hung out with each other on April 6 when they took an unofficial to Texas,” he said. “And they all left saying some of the same things, all on the same page. The idea that they get to play in this offense for a team whose trajectory is going nowhere but up — and catching passes potentially from Arch Manning at the next level. All signs point to Texas looking to be in great shape to land all three of those guys.”
Moore is the No. 3 overall prospect and No. 1 receiver in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Lockett, meanwhile, checks in at No. 14 overall and the nation’s No. 2 wideout, with Ffrench just behind as the nation’s No. 5 WR and No. 23 prospect.
