Texas trending for a pair of 5-star targets committing soon
Texas got on the board earlier this month with its first five-star commitment in the 2025 cycle, and they look to be closing in on two more of the nation’s elite football prospects.
On Tuesday, InsideTexas.com’s Justin Wells logged an expert pick in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) for the Longhorns to land five-star athlete Michael Terry III. That joins an earlier pick from UT insider Eric Nahlin, and it’s also the second five-star pick in as many days for the ‘Horns.
On Monday, fellow InsideTexas.com insider Joe Cook placed a pick for Texas to get a commitment from five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench, who is set to commit on August 30.
That joins a host of earlier picks for UT, including from On3 national insiders Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons.
“Ffrench has been one of Texas’ top targets since Ffrench decommitted from Alabama in January,” Cook wrote in making his prediction. “The work done by Steve Sarkisian and Chris Jackson has put the Longhorns in prime position to land one of the smoothest athletes the Sunshine State has produced at wide receiver.”
The Longhorns already have five-star Sachse (Texas) wide receiver Kaliq Lockett in the fold after he announced his decision earlier this month.
And by the end of August, they very well could have between 3-5 of the nation’s top 32 prospects in their class. While Terry doesn’t have an announced commitment date, he is expected to make a decision before his senior season begins later this month.
Two more five-star decisions to watch for the Longhorns
In addition to Terry and Ffrench, Texas also has two other major five-star targets announcing their decisions this month that they’ll be looking to close.

Just over a week from now, Lewisville (Texas) five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi is set to commit between Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma. And just three days later, five-star Galveston Ball safety Jonah Williams will announce between LSU, Texas, Oregon, Texas A&M and USC.
“Texas has always been a sleeper for me,” Williams told On3’s Steve Wiltfong about his most recent trip to Austin. “No one thought I was still interested in Texas.”
He also talked with Williams’ father Billy about the experience at Texas.
“It was a very good visit,” the elder Williams said. “I really liked the culture. What Coach Sark has accomplished there I’m really impressed with. I’m really impressed with Coach Sarkisian and the method he’s beginning to accomplish things. I think all the players are very in tune to what he’s trying to teach there. I’m very impressed with that.”
Fasusi, meanwhile, will be a battle until the end with the latest intel slightly favoring the rival Sooners. But Texas has been a longstanding fixture in his recruitment. And even if it doesn’t go their way a week from Wednesday, they will pursue him until signing day in December.
“I loved the resources,” Fasusi previously told On3. “There is a lot Texas football has to offer. A lot Austin has to offer in general too. … I can see the vision with them.”
