Texas and Oklahoma play one of the more heated rivalry games in the country each year in the Red River Rivalry. However, this season’s matchup was anything but competitive. The Longhorns hammered the Sooners 49-0 inside the Cotton Bowl.

Texas took one last victory lap in a tweet this afternoon featuring actor and massive Texas fan Matthew McConaughey.

Texas left no doubt whatsoever in the blowout win. The Longhorns were up 28-0 at halftime and showed no let up in the second half. In the end, they outgained Oklahoma with 585 yards compared to the 195 yards from the Sooners.

After losing three straight to Oklahoma, this one was real sweet for those in Austin. Texas’ win also dropped their rival’s record to just 3-3 overall on the year. The Longhorns have a tough Big 12 stretch the rest of the way but, regardless, McConaughey and the rest of Texas’ fanbase will at least have bragging rights for the next year.

LOOK: Bijan Robinson reacts to hilarious tweet suggesting new use for Golden Hat trophy

Bijan Robinson and Texas are the new owners of the Golden Hat trophy after shutting out Oklahoma to claim a 49-0 victory in the Red River Showdown on Saturday. Robinson had 130 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the win, prompting one of his NIL partners to take advantage of a perfect marketing opportunity.

Bijan Mustardson, the official mustard of Bijan Robinson, tweeted a photo of one of their bottles of mustard with the Golden Hat as the bottle cap. The caption on the picture read, “New mustard bottle cap option. Would y’all be interested in this?”

For Robinson, the answer is a resounding yes. He had a glowing endorsement when asked about it postgame.

“That’s sick,” he said according to The Athletic’s Chris Vannini.

Surprisingly, Texas dominated the game from start to finish as the Oklahoma offense struggled with starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel sidelined. Robinson scored the first touchdown of the game, and Texas never looked back as the Longhorns took a 28-0 lead into the locker room.

The victory marked the first for Texas in the Red River Showdown since 2018, and improved the Longhorns to 4-2 (2-1 Big 12). They will look to keep building upon that success when they face Iowa State next week at 11 a.m. CT.
