Steve Sarkisian reveals sideline reaction to final Bijan Robinson touchdown run in win vs. Kansas
Texas was dominant in their last road game of the season, as they traveled to Lawrence this weekend and defeated Kansas 55-14. The Longhorns’ strong showing was highlighted by a phenomenal day by star running back Bijan Robinson, who had a highlight tape-worthy touchdown run that head coach Steve Sarkisian reacted to following their victory.
“It was interesting because I had a little bit of a tough angle on the run to see exactly what went on, but our sideline you almost felt like it was one of those moments in practice where everybody watched the cut that he made and it was like an ooh and an ahh from the sideline as the play was going on still, as he was still running,” Sarkisian said.
Robinson ended the day with a career-high 243 yards and four touchdowns, with his highlight play touchdown being his fourth of the day and 31st of his career, placing him at 10th most in school history. His monster, career day will surely be one he won’t forget, but Sarkisian wants us all to remember Robinson for more than just the highlight plays and statistical performances.

“He does that a lot, he does things that we all marvel at,” Sarkisian said. “But I thought his competitive spirit sometimes gets overlooked, and his competitive spirit was when he knew what today was gonna be and he showed up and he played hard man.”

His competitive spirit has been crucial for the Longhorns this season, helping lead them to a 7-4 record and leading the Big 12 in rushing yards with 1,401 and rushing touchdowns with 16. He’s not only set up his team for a bowl game appearance after missing last season’s cut, but also himself for success following the season at the next level, as he currently ranks as one of the top prospects for the 2023 NFL Draft.
“He really ran the ball hard, he was explosive, even the run right before the end of the half leaping over the pile to get himself into the end zone there with one second. It just shows what he’s made of, this guy he loves his teammates and he knew how important this game was to everybody,” Sarkisian said.
Robinson will lead the Longhorns in their final home game of the season and the final of his career this week as they take on Baylor at home in a game that will kickoff at noon and air on ESPN.
