Texas LHP/OF Ace Whitehead enters NCAA transfer portal

Texas left-handed pitcher and outfielder Ace Whitehead has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He does so after failing to record any statistics during the 2025 campaign.
Whitehead’s usage varied at Texas, but he was a significant contributor as a pitcher in 2023 and 2024. During those two seasons he made 31 appearances on the mound.
He logged a 4.16 ERA in 2024, starting a career-high 10 games and putting together a 4-2 record. He went 67.0 innings and struck out 48, while walking 24. Opponents hit just .237 off him.
A year earlier, in 2023, Ace Whitehead made just four starts but appeared 16 times on the mound. He went 4-0 as a starter, showing some real ability despite not pitching a ton of innings.
He went just 26.1 innings but managed to strike out 24 in that time, while walking only 12. He’s consistently maintained a 2-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
As a hitter, Ace Whitehead has a .333 average on 36 at-bats. He has recorded two doubles and nine RBI, while scoring 11 times himself.
Virginia losing several to the portal
While Ace Whitehead is headed out of Texas, several players are on their way out of ACC school Virginia. The departure of coach Brian O’Connor to Mississippi State has led to several players seeking a fresh start as well.

Virginia baseball UTL Aidan Teel has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. Teel’s portal entry comes with a ‘do not contact’ tag. He is expected to head to Mississippi State.
Teel pitched, fielded and slugged for the Cavaliers during his time with the program. He spent three seasons with Virginia.
During the 2025 season, Teel appeared in 50 games for Virginia. Across 233 plate appearances, Teel logged 59 hits, scored 51 runs, knocked in 40 RBIs, stole nine bases and hit seven home runs.
He will join a Mississippi State baseball team that just hired his head coach at Virginia, Brian O’Connor. During his time with the Cavaliers, he led the program to a College World Series title in 2015 and made seven total trips to Omaha. He just completed his 21st season in Charlottesville but is now headed to Mississippi State, where he’ll replace Chris Lemonis and is now bringing his Virginia players over to the SEC with him.
