Prior to this weekend, the last time Texas defeated Oklahoma was in 2018’s Red River Rivalry game, but later that year in the Big 12 Championship, the Sooners won and got the last laugh and hadn’t lost to the Longhorns since. Until this past weekend when the Longhorns reclaimed the Golden Hat trophy in resounding fashion, defeating Oklahoma 49-0, a moment that senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown will never forget

“For me and (Anthony) Cook both our freshman year was the last time get got to touch that hat, so going out our senior year and with that hat in Austin, it means a lot more to us,” Overshown said.

Overshown and the Longhorn’s defense played outstanding Saturday, as they achieved their first shutout against the Sooners since their matchup in 1965. Which Overshown didn’t just attribute to the play of himself and his teammates, but the Texas coaching staff as well.

“Just credit to the coaches, they told us early on in the week they were going to write the script and we had to make the movie. They put us in positions to execute and we was able to go out there and now when people ask us about our senior year, what happened with the OU game, we tell them with a smile on our face. Yeah let’s go ahead and sit down,” Overshown laughed and said.

Overshown was also asked if he noticed Sooner fans leaving the game early, exiting in the third quarter knowing the game was out of reach for them, but according to him there were still some stragglers that got their two cents in until the final whistle.

“Oh yeah I noticed, but you still had the couple behind us chirping,” Overshown said.

The Longhorns had a historic day in one of college football’s most storied rivalries that Texans fans will definitely remember and brag about for a whole calendar year. But for senior players on the team like Overshown, who will never face the Sooners again, it means something truly special.

“But like I said playing in this game, coming to Texas, you circle this game on your calendar each year,” Overshown explained. “Not being able to bring that hat home four years in a row, it’s heartbreaking, but leaving with it this year, you’re never gonna forget that.”
