Texas LB Derion Gullette plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
Texas linebacker Derion Gullette is planning to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Gullette is entering the transfer portal after spending two seasons in Austin.
Derion Gullette did not receive any game action in 2023, before appearing in five games this past season. The Texas native recorded a pair of tackles for the Longhorns in 2024.
Derion Gullette signed with Texas as a member of the class of 2023. He was ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 13 linebacker in the country coming out of high school, per the On3 Industry rankings.
He chose the Longhorns over offers from Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Ohio State and several other high-profile schools.
Gullette starred on both sides of the ball during his high school career. As a junior, he recorded 125 tackles, five tackles for loss, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and four passes defended on defense.
On offense, he caught 64 passes for 1,458 yards and 14 touchdowns. Gullette also had 13 carries for 74 yards and four touchdowns. He missed all of his senior season with an injury.

Texas EDGE Tausili Akana also plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal
In addition to linebacker Derion Gullette, Longhorns EDGE, Tausili Akana also announced plans to enter the transfer portal on Monday.
The Hawaii native appeared in seven games in 2024. He recorded one tackle on the season, which came against UTSA.
Tausili Akana signed with Texas after being ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 12 linebacker in the country in the class of 2023, per the On3 Industry rankings. He appeared in one game as a true freshman that season.
Prior to coming to Texas, Akana was an All-American who was chosen to participate in the 2023 All-American Bowl. He finished his senior season of high school with 70 tackles, 14.5 sacks, 21 tackles for loss, 22 pressures and one forced fumble.
