Andrew Jones announces his Texas, NBA intentions
Texas Longhorns guard Andrew Jones will be leaving the program and entering his name into the 2022 NBA Draft, he announced via Instagram on Sunday night. One of the best stories college basketball has seen over the past few seasons, Jones will now try to accomplish his dream of playing professionally.
Jones sent out a message to all of the Texas fans, talking about the ups and downs they all have been through. He also thanked coaches for helping him during his time in Austin and said he is “ready” to take on the NBA.
“Longhorn nation since the first day I stepped foot on campus I was embraced with endless love and support,” Jones said. “We have shared every emotion possible together and I will always cherish the experience I had with you all. There have been so many special moments throughout my career that I will never forget. First, I would like to give all glory to God for carving out my path and preparing me for each phase of my life thus far.
“I would also like to say thank you to my parents for being the best support system I could ever ask for, love you with all my heart. Thank you to all my coaches during my time here at this amazing university. You have challenged and motivated me to become the best version of myself. As I officially enter my name into the 2022 NBA Draft, I am excited and most importantly ready for this next chapter of life.”

Jones played in 135 games at Texas, averaging 11.2 points per game. He was recruited under former head coach Shaka Smart before deciding to come back for one more season and play for Chris Beard. In the NCAA Tournament, Jones was only able to get one win and it came against Virginia Tech this season.
As a recruit, Jones was ranked a four-star prospect by the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services. He was the No. 37 overall prospect in the 2016 recruiting class and was No. 5 in the state of Texas.
Now, the focus will be on preparing for the NBA Draft so he can hear his name called by commissioner Adam Silver. It’s been a long journey for the Irving, TX native and the goal he set out to achieve could become true this summer.
