Report: Texas Director of Recruiting staying with program
After year one for Steve Sarkisian, there has been a little bit of staff turnover. Wide receivers coach Andre Coleman was relieved of his duties while running backs coach Stan Drayton took the Temple job. Late Sunday night, a positive note came out of Austin.
According to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, Brandon Harris will be staying with the Texas program. He has been with the Longhorns for three seasons now, beginning as an offensive analyst and an assistant running back coach on Tom Herman’s staff. Once Sarkisian took over, he was promoted to director of recruiting, helping bring in a top-five class this cycle.
Drayton was the one interested in bringing Harris with him to Philadelphia. The new head coach wanted him to be the director of player personnel for Temple.
Harris himself pseudo confirmed the news, tweeting out a “Hook ’em” emoji before Feldman’s report came out.
One player that seems happy with Harris’ decision to stay with Texas is freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy. He tweeted out his support of Harris, sarcastically saying there would have been some beef had he left.
Despite the 5-7 season, Harris was able to bring in the No. 5 class according to the On3 Consensus. A late surge on offensive lineman was key for the Longhorns, with the crown jewel being five-star and the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country Kelvin Banks.
As a player, Harris played for both the LSU Tigers and the UNC Tar Heels as a quarterback. His best year come in 2015, throwing for 2,165 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions for head coach Les Miles.

Brandon Harris teaming up with new Texas RB coach
In Drayton, Texas is losing one of the best recruiters at the individual position with running backs. With Sarkisian hiring Tashard Choice away from USC, Harris will now have a legit, volume recruiter at his disposal.
The 37-year-old Georgia native knows Texas well, as he was at North Texas as a graduate assistant in 2017 and became the running backs coach in 2018. The Mean Green averaged 153.8 yards per game on the ground in his second season and scored 25 touchdowns.
Choice is a former Dallas Cowboys and Georgia Tech running back. He started his college career at Oklahoma in 2004 before heading to Atlanta from 2005-2007. Choice had back-to-back seasons with over 1,300 rushing yards in his final two years at Georgia Tech, averaging at least five yards per carry in each season. He scored 28 total rushing touchdowns in college.
The Georgia native was taken by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL Draft and also spent time with the Washington Football Team, Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts. Choice finished his professional career in 2013 after playing in 88 games and starting four. He posted 1,579 yards and 10 touchdowns in that period.
