Texas Longhorns defensive lineman Myron Warren intends on entering the NCAA Transfer Portal, he announced via Twitter on Tuesday. He would have been entering his fourth season with the program but will now be looking for a new home.

“Hey UT family my time here has been a fun ride & I enjoyed being here along with my teammates & experiencing a great atmosphere every day,” Warren said in a statement. “I will be entering the transfer portal with 3 years of eligibility left to further my success on & off the football field to reach my goal and one day play at the next level. I thank everyone that has supported me on my journey, UT will always be family.”

Arriving at Texas before the 2019 season, Warren took a redshirt season under head coach Tom Herman. He did get any game action until this past year, playing in three games. Warren made his debut in the season opener against Louisiana, followed by an appearance two weeks later against Rice. The defensive lineman played his final game in a Texas uniform against Kansas State to close out the year.

In total, Warren will enter the transfer portal with three career tackles for Texas, all made against the Owls during the 2021 season.

Coming out of high school, Warren was rated a four-star prospect by the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services. He ranked as the No. 13 overall player from his home state of Louisiana and the No. 21 edge in the country.

The process of entering the portal is done through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database and everything is off and running. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request and that request cannot be refused.

Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship no longer has to be honored. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school is not obligated to provide a scholarship anymore.

The database is a normal database, sortable by a variety of topics, including (of course) sport and name. A player’s individual entry includes basic details such as contact info, whether the player was on scholarship, and whether the player is transferring as a graduate student.

A player can ask that a “do not contact” tag be placed on the report. In those instances, the players don’t want to be contacted by schools unless they’ve initiated the communication.
