Texas Longhorns edge rusher enters transfer portal
According to Matt Zenitz of On3, Texas Longhorns edge rusher David Abiara has entered the NCAA transfer portal. He was only on campus for one season, being a late addition to the 2021 recruiting class for Steve Sarkisian, who was on campus for just a short period of time.
Texas struggled on the edge last season but Abiara was not able to sneak his way onto the field for some playing time. During his original commitment, the Longhorns won out over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, where he made his original commitment. Once defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski came over from Washington, Texas was able to win the recruitment.
Coming out of high school, Abiara was rated a four-star prospect by the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services. He ranked as the No. 47 edge prospect in the country and No. 67 in the state of Texas.
Texas Longhorns continue busy day in NCAA transfer portal
It’s been a busy day for Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian with the NCAA transfer portal, with the Longhorns losing a few names on Friday.
Texas lost a pair of wide receivers to the NCAA Transfer Portal, as both Dajon Harrison and Kelvontay Dixon have made the decision to explore playing at different schools for the 2022 season. On3’s Matt Zenitz reported the news on Friday afternoon.
Harrison, a former On3 Consensus three-star recruit out of the Class of 2020, appeared in just one game over two seasons with the Longhorns. He committed to Texas over other offers from schools such as TCU, Arizona State, Iowa State and Kansas State.

Dixon, a former On3 Consensus four-star prospect who’s also out of the 2020 class, played in 15 games over two seasons at Texas – making three receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown. Dixon chose to play for the Longhorns over offers from Arkansas and Houston.
Another edge player, Jordan Thomas, will be leaving Austin as well. He was the player who kicked everything off on Friday.
Thomas did not record any statistics as a true freshman last season. He joined the Longhorns as a four-star EDGE, the 25th-rated player at his position, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average.
May 1 is the deadline for players to enter the portal and still be able to play for whatever team they select as their next home. Texas has already seen a lot of turnover before the weekend even starts.
