The Texas Longhorns took care of business in their first game under Steve Sarkisian.

Just moments after Texas sealed its 38-18 victory over University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Longhorns biggest celebrity fan, Matthew McConaughey took to social media to share an interesting message of encouragement.

“From show to DOUGH, from talk to WALK, nobody act like one, when everybody BE one,” McConaughey tweeted. “All gas no brakes on the way to greatness. Longhorns win.”

We aren’t really sure the full meaning of the tweet, but the Hollywood superstar tends to have his own language at times. Either way, McConaughey was thrilled for the Texas Longhorns strong start.

Bob Stoops thinks Texas Longhorns poised for big year

There is nothing harder than addressing the success of a rival. Former Oklahoma head coach and current Fox Big Noon Kickoff analyst Bob Stoops painfully faced that situation on Saturday. During the college football pregame show, Stoops talked about the trajectory of Texas football and the recent hire of Steve Sarkisian.

“Yeah, this isn’t easy for me to say,” Stoops said. “It kind of pains me to say it. I believe they’re gonna have a strong year. I believe it’s going to start today against a really good Louisiana team.”

He continued: “They’re going to be a strong team. I believe [Sarkisian has] hired a strong staff. They have top-10 recruiting classes here for the last 10-20 years. And I look first to the defense. Their new coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski is a really strong defensive coordinator and is proven and has done well.”

Stoops expects the biggest difference to come on offense, where Sarkisian has made a name for himself. The former Pac-12 head coach and Alabama coordinator brings a group of Alabama coaches with him, including new offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and quarterback coach A.J. Milwee.

Texas opened the season strong on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Hudson Card finished Saturday’s game 14-of-21 for 224 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Jordan Whittington led the receiving corps with seven grabs for 113 yards and a touchdown, while running back Bijan Robinson balanced the offense with 103 rushing yards and a score.

The Longhorns will have to improve on defense against the pass, but their rushing unit was stifling, limiting their opponent to just 78 yards on the ground.
