T'Vondre Sweat reveals how hard he pushed to get a touchdown pass
Texas star defensive lineman T’Vondre Sweat showed off his receiving skills during Saturday’s Big 12 Championship Game win over Oklahoma State.
Late in the first quarter of Saturday’s eventual 49-21 victory, Sweat lined up at tight end. It appeared as though he was going to stay in and block at first, but instead, he made his way to the back of the end zone and caught a touchdown from star quarterback Quinn Ewers.
After the game, T’Vondre Sweat was asked if he had been lobbying to catch a touchdown pass.
“Well, I mean, I was going to Coach Flood all the time and Coach Sark, waiting on this opportunity to get this touchdown,” Sweat said. “They told me during the game, I was going to get the touchdown, and it happened.”
Kyle Flood is the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the Longhorns, while Steve Sarkisian is of course the head coach at Texas. Sarkisian also calls the plays.
He called one on Saturday that led to Sweat catching his first career touchdown.
After the catch, Sweat celebrated by doing the Heisman pose. The senior is certainly one of the best players in college football as he was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. However, he wasn’t named a Heisman finalist.
“The Heisman, I mean, I’d love to go to New York,” Sweat said.
Instead, he will have to settle for competing for a national championship. Entering the College Football Playoff, Sweat has recorded 42 tackles 8 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and a touchdown catch.
Steve Sarkisian on getting Texas to the playoff: ‘This is why I came here’
T’Vondre Sweat and Texas are two wins away from a national championship. Even getting the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff is something head coach Steve Sarkisian is proud of.

Sarkisian spoke about the achievement during a press conference on Sunday. He said this success is why he came to Austin in the first place. He knew that it was possible to accomplish there from the moment he decided to take the job in 2021.
“It’s why I came here,” said Sarkisian.
“I was referencing this the other day that there became a point when I was at Alabama where I said, ‘Alright, I’m going to be a head coach again. I want to go somewhere where I have a legitimate chance to win championships,’” said Sarkisian. “When this opportunity came? To me, this was the no-brainer because I know what this place can do.”
Sarkisian didn’t run away from the spotlight that comes with his job either. He continued by saying how happy he has been to embrace what people expect of them on The 40 Acres. That, in turn, has made their playoff berth that much sweeter.
“I understand that there’s high expectations and a high standard here for winning championships – but that’s why I came here,” Sarkisian said. “I wasn’t naive to think, ‘Oh, I just get to be a head coach’. Ho-hum, win eight games, and everything is going to be great. You’re brought here to compete for championships year in and year out.”
