Texas is down two receivers in fall camp. One is Isaiah Neyor, who head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed tore his ACL during Saturday’s scrimmage and will miss the 2022 season. The other is Agiye Hall, who was arrested for removing a parking boot from his car on Thursday.

Sarkisian commented on Hall once again, who the head coach announced would be suspended from team activities indefinitely. Hall will be back with the Longhorns “when the time is right” according to the head coach, continuing to keep a vague time frame.

“We’re working with Agiye, we’re working with his family to get him in a situation where he can be a really functional part of this team,” Sarkisian said. “The goal for him, the goal for us is to play great football at the University of Texas. Graduate from the University of Texas and be a great teammate and walk out of here an even better person than he did when he arrived. We’re putting all the pieces in place to help him do that. When the time is right, we’ll have him back on our team.”

Steve Sarkisian opens up on Agiye Hall suspension

Hall being suspended is not just because of his recent arrest, according to Sarkisian. Previous incidents played into the decision as well, where Sarkisian said he felt the “need to help” Hall. Early signs are showing progress and Hall has been “receptive” before rejoining Texas at a later date.

“I think like anything, everybody’s at a different stage of their career,” said Sarkisian. “My job as a coach is to put our players in the best position to be successful. Not just in football but in life, in the classroom. I felt like this situation called for that. This is not something that is based off of one incident.

“This is something that is a body of work that I feel like ‘I need to help the young man.’ And that’s what we’re going to do. I think he’s been very receptive to it and hoping when he does come back, he can join us. He’s going to be in a really good spot to help contribute to the team.”

Suspensions have been an issue in the past for Hall

Hall is a talented player but has not been able to get out of his own way. Nick Saban suspended the wide receiver while he was a freshman at Alabama but never gave a clear answer as to why.

“He is suspended from the team for violations of some team rules, whether they’re academic or whatever, it doesn’t really matter,” Saban said at the time, via AL.com’s Mike Rodak. “Everybody has a responsibility and obligation to respect the principles and values.”

One day later, Hall was in the transfer portal and wound up with his old offensive coordinator, Sarkisian, but now in the Lone Star State. Even so, he has once again been suspended for off-the-field issues, with Sarkisian releasing a statement echoing what he said on Monday.

“We’re aware of the situation involving Agiye Hall, have talked with his family, and have suspended him from all team activities for conduct that is detrimental to our program,” the statement read.
