Texas Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson was not happy with his team after losing on the road to the Baylor Bears. It is the third time in as many weeks that the Longhorns have let a halftime lead slip away. Robinson, who is a leader on the offensive side of the ball, let his feelings be known after the game.

“We’re all frustrated,” said Robinson. “We have a lead at halftime and let it go. And that’s happened three Times Now. But we’re just trying to see the mistakes that happened, see everything that’s happening. We’re trying hard to get back up.”

Bears outlast the Longhorns

This week the Longhorns held a 14-10 lead at the half. Texas added it to their lead, scoring a touchdown on their first drive of the second half to take a 21-10 lead. But as Robinson pointed out, the Longhorns let that lead dissipate quickly. The Bears responded by scoring a touchdown on three consecutive drives to overtake the Longhorns 31-21. Texas would add a field goal late to bring them within seven, midway through the fourth quarter. But failed to move the ball at all on their final possession. The Texas Longhorns fell at the hands of the Baylor Bears by a final score of 31-24.

Robinson did not play particularly well in this game. He ended with 17 carries for 43 yards and just one touchdown. This is just his second game of the season with less than 100 yards rushing and the first since the Longhorns’ second game of the season, when they lost to the Arkansas Razorbacks 40-21. It’s easily his worst performance of the season and his first one without a carry for 10 or more yards.

A Texas trend

During this three-game losing streak, the Longhorns have fallen to the Big 12’s top three teams. After starting the Red River shootout against bitter rival Oklahoma on fire, the Longhorns quickly cooled off scoring just 10 points in the second half compared to 38 in the first. They lost that game in a close one 55-48. The following week against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Texas took a 17-13 lead into the half. And similar to the Oklahoma loss and this week’s loss, the Longhorns offense sputtered in the second half. They were only able to score just one touchdown to begin the second half and then proceeded to be shut out the rest of the game. The Cowboys would go on to win the game 32-24.

Texas falls to 4-4 on the season and looks like a team with more questions than answers. Things do not get any better for the Longhorns next week as they take on the number four team in the conference, the Iowa State Cyclones. The Cyclones are currently ranked 22nd in the nation and sit at 5-2 on the season.
