Texas makes change at quarterback against Iowa State
The Texas Longhorns made a change Saturday, pulling starting quarterback Casey Thompson for Hudson Card to start the second half against Iowa State. Card entered the game near the end of the first quarter following a 2-of-6 start from Thompson.
As of 9:30 remaining in the third quarter, the redshirt freshman was 7-of-10 passing for 47 yards and a touchdown. Texas trailed Iowa State by score of 10-7.
Card began the season as the Longhorns starter, but was benched following a loss to Arkansas in Week 2. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is looking for anything to give the team momentum at this point. His squad entered Saturday on a three-game losing streak and sitting at 4-4 overall.
Could Card provide the spark the offense needs to get things going?
Ultimately, he didn’t as Texas failed to score a single point in the second half. Meanwhile, Iowa State piled onto its lead to pull away with a 30-7 victory.
Now losers of four straight, Texas is in jeopardy of missing out on a bowl game. The Longhorns will need to win two of their final three games against Kansas, West Virginia and Kansas State to become eligible.

The Cyclones, on the other hand, earned their bowl eligibility by defeating Texas. They finish out the year with Texas Tech, Oklahoma and TCU.
It will be interesting to see how the quarterback situation plays out as the Longhorns prepare to face the Jayhawks next week. Card did not play much better than Thompson, finishing 14-of-23 for 101 yards and a touchdown.
After already making a quarterback change once this season, will Texas go back to its original starter? Thompson has struggled of late, having thrown three touchdowns and three interceptions in his past two games entering Saturday. The Longhorns have already fallen short of preseason expectations at this point, but can still salvage the year with a strong finish.
