The Texas Longhorns are preparing for their first-round matchup in the NCAA tournament against Colgate. However, some of the questions the players had to answer during their recent media availability had nothing to do with that or the team itself. A handful of players, Brock Cunningham, Marcus Carr, and Timmy Allen, were asked to give their thoughts on their former head coach Chris Beard and his recent hiring at Ole Miss. And the trio didn’t mince words.

“Best of luck to Beard and the University of Mississippi,” said Cunningham. “Wishing Coach best wishes in his new start and for that program,” added Carr. “Likewise,” said Allen to close.

It has been a wild season for the Texas Longhorns men’s basketball program, filled with plenty of ups and downs. Still, after losing their head coach to start the season Beard, the Longhorns the regular season 26-8 and were the winners of the Big 12 conference tournament. That is thanks to the leadership displayed by Rodney Terry. After Beard was fired by the Longhorns athletics department, they appointed Terry as head coach for the remainder of the season. And all he did was lead Texas to their best overall and conference record (12-6) in over a decade.

Chris Beard fired at Texas, hired at Ole Miss

Chris Beard was let go from Texas despite success after a domestic violence charge that was later dropped, while the Rebels let go of Kermit Davis after five seasons. Nevertheless, Keith Carter is more than exuberant to bring in Beard as Davis’ replacement, as he explained in his warm, welcoming statement regarding the hire.

Numerous reports connected Beard to the SEC opening over recent weeks, but the two sides made their marriage public on Monday. A loaded conference just added another behemoth to their ranks, and Ole Miss couldn’t be more excited to have Beard leading their charge.

“A four-time conference coach of the year and 2019 national coach of the year, Chris Beard will bring his long run of success to Oxford and the SEC, as he has been named the 23rd head men’s basketball coach at Ole Miss by Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Keith Carter on Monday,” wrote Ole Miss.”
