Report: Texas QB Quinn Ewers planning to declare for 2025 NFL Draft after season
Amid rumors that he could stick around college football in 2025, Quinn Ewers reportedly is still planning to declare for the NFL Draft at the moment, according to Rivals’ Anwar Richardson.
“Sources say Quinn Ewers still plans to declare for the NFL Draft after this season, paving the way for Arch Manning to take over in 2025,” Richardson posted on X. “Manning is locked in with Texas and coach Steve Sarkisian, with no plans to transfer. Right now, both are dialed in on Clemson.”
With Arch Manning slated to takeover the Longhorns in 2025, there wouldn’t be much of a need for Ewers in Austin beyond this season. However, if he did decide to return to college football, he could look to transfer, which has piqued the interest of many around the sport. That doesn’t seem to be the case though.
Of course, nothing is official at the moment. Ewers is preparing to lead Texas into the first round of the College Football Playoff, hoping to deliver the Longhorns a national title in 2024. It appears to be his swan song with the program, regardless of his decision, it seems.
2024 has been an interesting year for Ewers, as he’s received plenty of criticism, with some asking for Manning to take over the starting role. Steve Sarkisian has recently carved out a role for Manning but made it clear Ewers is the No. 1 guy under center.

Earlier this week, Sarkisian was asked how he handles the noise surrounding Ewers and Manning, unsurprisingly saying he does not listen at all. The Texas head coach notes how most people commenting on the matter would not be people he asked for advice in the first place. Decisions are made inside the building by Sarkisian himself and his surrounding coaching staff.
“I try to not consume myself with what y’all think,” Sarkisian said via The Rich Eisen Show. “We focus at the task at hand and that’s what’s in the best interest of the team to win ball games. If I let the emotional roller coaster of what other people think, I’d be an emotional nightmare. Because in one aspect, I can read one article that says Quinn is the greatest thing since whomever. Next is, ‘Why don’t you play Arch?’
“You can go back and forth, all the way around, listen to talk radio and watch every show. Or you can focus on the people in your building, keep your head down, make sure that you’re providing the right type of motivation and leadership for them so that they can follow their lead… I’m not really one to buy into the opinions of others or the criticism of others that I would never ask advice from.”
Time will tell what the future holds for Quinn Ewers and the Texas Longhorns, but the quarterback is certainly the present for the program, and the Clemson Tigers are the only thing on his mind at the moment.
