Steve Sarkisian has his new wide receivers coach in his sights.

Texas is preparing to hire Pitt wide receivers coach Brennan Marion as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator, sources told On3’s Matt Zenitz. Marion just wrapped up his first — and only — season with the Panthers.

Marion also had interest from one G5 offensive coordinator opening, but is instead moving to Austin to join Sarkisian’s staff. He’s been a bit of a journeyman the last few years. Since jumping to college coaching in 2015, Marion has been at six schools. Texas will be his seventh.

He started is college coaching career with Arizona State as a quality control assistant in 2015 before moving to Oklahoma Baptist as running backs coach in 2016. After working as Howard’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2017-18, Marion took the same position at William & Mary in 2019.

In 2020, he moved to Hawaii was wide receivers coach before landing at Pitt this season. Now, he’s going to Texas to coach wide receivers and serve as the passing game coordinator.

Texas went 5-7 in Sarkisian’s first season with the Longhorns, just missing out on a bowl game. The Longhorns got a huge recruiting victory this offseason, though, landing Ohio State transfer and former Five Star Plus+ quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Report: Texas Director of Recruiting staying with program

After year one for Steve Sarkisian, there has been a little bit of staff turnover. Wide receivers coach Andre Coleman was relieved of his duties while running backs coach Stan Drayton took the Temple job. Late Sunday night, a positive note came out of Austin.

According to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, Brandon Harris will be staying with the Texas program. He has been with the Longhorns for three seasons now, beginning as an offensive analyst and an assistant running back coach on Tom Herman’s staff. Once Sarkisian took over, he was promoted to director of recruiting, helping bring in a top-five class this cycle.

Drayton was the one interested in bringing Harris with him to Philadelphia. The new head coach wanted him to be the director of player personnel for Temple.

Harris himself pseudo confirmed the news, tweeting out a “Hook ’em” emoji before Feldman’s report came out.

One player that seems happy with Harris’ decision to stay with Texas is freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy. He tweeted out his support of Harris, sarcastically saying there would have been some beef had he left.
