Texas' Timmy Allen sidelined for Big 12 Championship

It appears Texas will have to go through the Big 12 Championship without Timmy Allen. The Longhorns star looks set to miss the game, according to the Lawrence Journal-World’s Matt Tait.
Allen has been considered “day-to-day” after suffering an injury in Texas’ last matchup with Kansas at the end of the regular season, according to interim head coach Rodney Terry. He hasn’t played since as the Longhorns rattled off a run to the Big 12 Tournament championship game.
Allen has been a key player for Texas in his second season with the program following his transfer from Utah. This year, he’s averaging 10.5 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 48.2% from the field.
After Allen missed Texas’ first game of the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday, Terry said the absence should not be a major concern. While he doesn’t know when Allen will return, Terry said it shouldn’t be a long-term injury.

“It’s just a day-to-day situation right now, lower leg situation,” Terry said after Texas defeated Oklahoma State.
According to Terry, Allen was injured during the Longhorns’ regular season finale, which Texas won 75-59. Allen scored just six points in the win but added six rebounds, three assists and had a plus/minus of +17.
“Timmy got nicked up a little bit in the Kansas game, and we immediately started working on his recovery,” Terry said. “We got one of the best trainers in the country, Joe Reilly, strength coach. They have been working with him the last couple days, and we just made a decision that we are going to go day-to-day, and he’s getting better each and every day. But we’ll put him back out there when the opportunity presents itself to where he’s 100 percent.”
Texas and Kansas are now gearing up for a high-stakes rematch in the Big 12 Tournament title game.
