Texas to host Houston WR transfer Matthew Golden

Transferring Houston Cougars receiver Matthew Golden, a native of Houston, might not have to leave his home state to find his new home.  On Thursday, On3’s Gerry Hamilton revealed that Golden is expected to make an offcial visit with the Texas Longhorns in Austin this weekend.

Golden, a sophomore, has spent the first two years of his college career at Houston with the Cougars. In that time, he has played in a total of 20 games. In both his freshman and sophomore seasons, Golden caught 38 passes apiece but had a better stat line his freshman year. Golden finished the 2022 campaign with 584 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, compared to his 404 receiving yards and six touchdowns this season.

Golden played high school football at Klein Cain High in Houston, TX, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 176 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
