Texas true freshman Xavier Worthy has been drawing rave reviews in Longhorns fall camp since he arrived there. Many members of the media are expecting him to make an instant-impact this fall, including CBS Ben Kercheval.

Here’s what he had to say about Worthy below.

“There’s been one word to describe Worthy so far: fast. Speed kills, and Worthy ran a 10.55 100m as a sophomore at Central East High School in Fresno, California. And that’s what first-year Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian is going to want as he implements a new offense while breaking in a largely new group of pass-catchers. Worthy, a four-star recruit from the 2021 class, has been turning heads this offseason. He possesses the potential to be the type of playmaker Sark enjoyed in bunches at Alabama: speedy, good at creating separation and catching the deep ball.”

Worthy has been drawing praise from many observers of Texas football practices in the fall, including On3’s Gerry Hamilton. Here’s what Hamilton had to say about the uber-talented receiver in his article discussing five newcomers to watch for Texas in their season opener on Sept. 4.

“The 6-foot-1, 160-pound freshman has to become the top receiver on the team. He has a combination of quickness and big play speed no other receiver on the roster possesses. That combined with Jordan Whittington’s continued inability to stay healthy adds to Worthy’s importance. That’s a lot to put on the On3 five-star prospect, but Worthy has performed at a high level since arriving in June. He has learned the offense, and passed toughness tests in August.”

As Hamilton noted above, Worthy earned a five-star rating from On3 and he was ranked as the 18th best prospect in America in the On3 Class of 2021 Rankings.

Xavier Worthy was at one point an under the radar prospect

People will look back and wonder how Xavier Worthy was so lightly recruited back in 2019. He only had one scholarship in early October 2019 and was slicing through defenses with ease. Check out the highlight video below.

High School Stats

As a junior in high school, Xavier Worthy hauled in 55 catches for 992 yards and 16 touchdowns. He helped lead Central East (Fresno, California) to its first-ever CIF Division 1-AA state championship after a 15-0 season in 2019.

Worthy originally committed to the Michigan Wolverines, but de-committed from Michigan on April 15th, 2021. The five-star prospect then chose Texas on April 24th.

The Texas Lonhorns kickoff their 2021 season against the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 PM EST on Fox.
