Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek four-star cornerback Cobey Sellers is set to announce his commitment this weekend on May 11.

Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma will all have hats on the table for the 5-foot-11.5, 163-pounder. With Sellers’ decision imminent, Longhorns secondary coach Terry Joseph made his way to Shadow Creek High to visit the top target on Thursday.

Sellers was on The Forty Acres at the end of January for a big junior day weekend. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and Co. helped make an impression, showing the DB that he’s a priority in Austin.

“Being able to talk with the coaches, being able to be around them and get a feel for them, I heard a lot about their experience and their time in the NFL,” Sellers previously told On3. “Sark’s big message is to make the right decision for me and my family, and they really want me there and if I think Texas is right for me, they’re on board. They love me as a player and also as a person, and they’re ready to make it happen.

“I definitely like Texas,” he added. “I like what their coaching staff is doing, the personalities of the coaches, and I could see myself being there.”

Oklahoma was the team trending for Sellers for a majority of the spring, but A&M is now has the edge in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). On3 VP of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong and Oklahoma insider Josh McCuistion have each logged picks in favor of the Aggies.

“A&M’s new staff has been recruiting since they got there,” Sellers recently said. “The head coach, DC, and cornerback coaches came to see me at my school. Coach Peterson has been calling and recruiting me for over a year since he was at Kansas. He never stopped recruiting me even though I never went to visit Kansas. So our relationship isn’t new like most would think. Every time we talk he’s teaching me something about the game and I see how he developed DBs at Kansas.

“I think Coach Elko can get A&M back on the right track.”

Sellers is the No. 165 overall prospect and No. 20 corner in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 28 player in the Lone Star State.

Texas owns top-10 recruiting class in 2025 cycle

Thanks to six commits — all of whom are four-star prospects — Texas currently has the No. 10 class in the nation — which also checks in at No. 5 in the SEC and No. 1 in The Lone Star State.

The class was kicked off with a bang back in June, as Saraland (Ala.) four-star quarterback K.J. Lacey pledged to the Longhorns. The gunslinger has continued to rise in the On3 Industry Ranking and now checks in as a top-10 player at his position.

Lacey has since been flanked by five others since December. Calhoun (Ga.) four-star tight end Emaree Winston and Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie four-star defensive lineman Brandon Brown committed to UT on back-to-back days.

Texarkana (Texas) Pleasant Grove four-star athlete Lance Jackson pledged in January to add some in-state defensive flair to the pledge list in Austin. Jackson is the top-ranked pledge in the class, checking in at No. 47 overall and No. 3 at the athlete position.

Last month, Tyler (Texas) Chapel Hill four-star running back Rickey Stewart Jr. and Dallas Skyline four-star linebacker Elijah Barnes each joined the fold. Barnes is a top-100 recruit and the No. 10 LB in the cycle.
