Texas WR Freddie Dubose Jr. enters the NCAA Transfer Portal

WR Freddie Dubose Jr. obviously wasn’t part of the long-term plans at Texas. That was made absolutely clear with an update on him on Friday.
Dubose will enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. That comes after one season spent on The 40 Acres.
This doesn’t come as too much of a surprise considering the latest on his status in Austin. The Longhorns had not listed Dubose on the roster for next season. That’s after he didn’t make any appearances during his freshman year last fall.
Dubose, a native of New Braunfels, Texas, played in high school at Smithson Valley in Spring Branch. He was the No. 436 overall recruit there as a three-star in the 2024 cycle. He also rated as a Top-75 wide receiver in the class and a Top-75 prospect out of the state. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. With that, Dubose was one of their lower-rated signees, as their lowest-rated receiver, out of the 23 total that they added in their class in ’24 that ranked at No. 6.

Texas’ Spring Wide Receiver Room
For the second straight year in a row, Texas is tasked with replacing the top players from the pass-catching group. That’s with Matthew Golden, Isaiah Bond, and Silas Bolden at receiver and Gunnar Helm at tight end all playing next year in the NFL.
Texas has not yet gone to the portal this offseason, though Inside Texas expects the Longhorns to be in search of at least one option in the spring window. Without an outside addition for spring practice, though, the Longhorns are working to develop what they already have in Austin. Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore being the only returning receivers with receptions on the roster now leaves a lot of intrigue is with the rest of the group and their ability to develop into true difference-makers for this next season.
IT has since closely observed their corps during the teams first spring practice as the depth chart at receiver looked as follows:
X
Ryan Wingo
Jaime Ffrench
Michael Terry III
Z
Parker Livingstone
Aaron Butler
Kaliq Lockett

DeAndre Moore Jr.
Daylan McCutcheon
Rett Anderson
